Joe was awarded in 2017 and set off in 2019 to London after getting a position at the Australian embassy with the Department of Defence. His strive for personal and professional growth is second to none and the AOF is extremely proud of what he has achieved to date.

As Joe said himself in a recent report “I had one of those pinch yourself moments to make sure this was really happening! Here I was walking past Trafalgar Square, immersed in a bustling modern city with everyone going about their business and here was me, country boy from South Australia, right in the thick of it”. It just goes to show where vocational training and hard work can take you!

He can’t divulge his day to day duties for security purposes but is says “It’s clear though how valuable my work experience in both State and Federal government has been. I have found that much of the parliamentary processes I am familiar with are echoed in the departmental side of the things.”

A recent request from Joe to the AOF was for him to attend Landmark Forum which is a three and a half day personal and professional development course. Joe’s verdict: “It gave me tools to deal with life issues in ways that I had never thought of doing before!”

On the travel side of things Joe spent Christmas in Boston with some of my extended family. It was the first time he had been to America and a perfect Christmas present was seeing “seeing snow!”. For New Years he travelled to Edinburgh for the Hogmanay celebrations and a New Years resolution is to travel to a new country every month!

Once again the AOF is extremely proud of his efforts. Without ongoing support from our valued sponsors and alumni we would not be able to do what we do!
