• Occupation: Automotive Technician
  • Country of work: Canada
  • Scholarship provided by: VACC in 2008

Chris completed his apprenticeship in Automotive Light Vehicles in 2008. He maintained his interest in coaching children’s sports and successfully applied for an AOF Scholarship sponsored by the Victorian Automobile Chamber of Commerce in early 2009. By November that year he was working as a technician with a new Toyota dealership being built near Vancouver in Canada.

Chris assisted with the setup of the service department during the construction phase and also attended Toyota University in Calgary and Vancouver where he completed his Master Diagnostic Technician training. His technical development and training continued after the service department became operational and Chris was rapidly promoted to lead technician.

He returned to Australia in March 2011 and was immediately employed as a Service Advisor with South Morang Toyota. He was rapidly promoted through a variety of work roles including Workshop Controller and back-up Service Manager. In July 2013 he applied to the VACC and obtained the position of Field Manager, Auto Apprenticeships. Chris is now responsible for managing a growing number of school based apprentices, liaising with TAFE Institutes and training centres and promoting auto apprenticeships to Employers and secondary students across the state.

After a rigorous selection process, he became an Australian Overseas Foundation board member in August 2013 and is currently an active contributor on two board member subcommittees.
